FAQs

Is McIntire right for me?

McIntire is a valuable resource for anyone looking to gain a career enhancing education through one of four distinct certificate programs: the McIntire Business Institute, business fundamentals, sustainability, or cybersecurity for business leaders.

What are the academic requirements for each certificate?

The McIntire Business Institute and the Certificate in Business Fundamentals are specifically designed for non-business majors who have successfully completed at least two years of undergraduate education, recent grads from non-business programs, and working professionals. Where applicable, candidates must be in good academic standing and have a competitive GPA to be eligible for the programs.  Undergraduate business majors will not be considered.

The Certificate in Sustainable Business is designed for non-business or business majors as well as recent grads and working professionals. Where applicable, candidates must be in good academic standing and have a competitive GPA to be eligible for the program.

The Certificate in Cybersecurity for Business Leaders is designed for working professionals with more than one year of experience.

What type of degree will I receive?

The certificate programs at McIntire are non-degree programs. Students who successfully finish the program receive a certificate from the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce attesting to their successful completion of the program. The grading system is measured on a pass/fail basis, and students whose participation is exceptional receive awards of outstanding achievement.

Can I receive course credit for completing the MBI programs?

The McIntire School of Commerce does not award attendees academic credit on completion of a certificate program.  Attendees would need to discuss the possibility of obtaining course credit with their undergraduate institution.
